In yesterday’s Wall Street Journal cover story entitled “Safety Net Frays for Millions of Retirees,” Leslie Scism reported that “steep rate increases that many policyholders never saw coming are confronting them with an awful choice: Come up with the money to pay more – or walk away from their coverage.”
While it is unpleasantly true that many carriers have raised policy premiums, Ms. Scism failed to offer other potential solutions. We’ve restructured clients’ policy benefits to maintain current coverage with little or no rate increase.
On another note, Ms. Scism also reports about cases where the carriers have failed to authorize claims. Per my own personal experiences, I’ve never had a valid client LTC claim rejected. However, I will say that there are important nuances and processes to understand and follow to have a claim approved.
